Optimize Your Website For Bing The Right Way

Now that new search engines like Bing are being talked about more readily, its clear that people want to know how to optimize for Microsoft’s latest introduction to search. Those who visit Bing will find that the site provides general search and a category search. Other than a large graphic, the search engine doesn’t appear to have a lot behind it. However, Microsoft has reported a more intelligent search engine and new search experience.

Each day I am getting a large number of blog readers asking about Bing and what they should be doing to get sites ranked well on this new search engine. This is a common question whenever new search engines are released regarding the methodology they use to rank.. The good news here is that Bing appears to follow many of the same protocols as Google, the world’s leading search engine.

One of the best ways to reverse engineer a given search engine is to do a study of the top ranked website for a specific term. Based on some research that I’ve done and the work of others in the SEO community, it’s pretty clear that this type of analysis provides clues of which criteria weigh most heavily in Bing’s search algorithm. No one will be all that surprised to learn that older domains perform better than newer websites and in bound linking plays a major role in results.

It appears as though Microsoft’s Bing search engine is using many of the same ranking factors as other popular search engines. This is good news simply because optimization of web sites take time and trying to optimize for one search engine over another may provide very mixed results. Bing likes in bound links and that is pretty consistent regardless of which search engine you are trying to improve your organic results for.

By know you know the importance of improving your web site’s organic search results. This creates more awareness, traffic, and positive results. Perhaps you know about the importance of organic rankings but don’t have the resources to move your site towards the top of the search results. Don’t worry, begin small and focus on building links to your site. Once you do, you can see positive improvements in your rankings on Bing and other search results.

The other place you want to focus is content. Quality content is vital. But trying to attract users with quality content alone is not enough to rank on top for competitive keywords. Make is easy for others to link to your content and give them a reason to do so. Add time to your daily efforts to acquire links from relevant and authoritative sites to increase your rankings and keep you on top of search engine results.

Focus on search engine optimization basics if you want to improve your website’s rankings. Not only will this have a positive impact on your Bing ranking for certain keywords but it will also have a positive impact on your site’s ranking across most major search engines. Fundamental principles like quality content and easily crawled web sites have a positive impact that can last for a very long time.
